A plastic injection mold is a type of mold used to create parts produced by injecting plastic materials into a mold under high pressure. This mold is combined with the plastic injection machine and the molten plastic material is injected into the mold cavity. The mold is then cooled and the part is removed from the mold.
Plastic injection molds use a two-piece mold system. The two mold parts are brought together to form the mold cavity and combined with the injection machine. The mold cavity can be customized according to the shape and size of the part to be produced. The mold cavity design is designed to control the flow and cooling of the plastic material.
Plastic injection molds have many advantages. These advantages include the speed of the production process, high precision, excellent surface quality, high productivity and freedom of design. Also, the waste rate in the production process is low and the environmental impact can be reduced by using recyclable materials.
Plastic injection is basically a closed mold, after the plastic material is rapidly injected from the runner inlet into the mold cavity at a temperature range above the melt temperature, after the ironing phase and the holding phase, the size and visual tolerances of the part are brought to an acceptable level, and the plastic is below the exit temperature of the mold. It is a plastic part manufacturing method based on the principle of being brought out of the mold. Because it is suitable for mass production, it is a production method that is widely used in many sectors. With this method, plastic parts can be manufactured in a wide variety of sizes and categories, from the smallest components to automotive and defense industry products.
The advantages of plastic injection can be listed as follows;
- Lower costs
- Suitability for automation
- No need for post-processing
- Production at high speeds
- Compatibility with the production of parts in different surfaces, colors and shapes
- Very little material loss
- Ability to produce different products in the same mold
- Ability to work in low tolerances
